The Extraordinary Uses of Peanut Butter

Peanut butter is one of the most popular foods in the United States. In fact, nearly 75 percent of homes currently have at least one jar in their home right now!

Being so popular, it’s helpful to know what you can use peanut butter for around your home. In fact, part of being prepared is knowing how to reuse items for multiple purposes.

Clean Carpets
It seems like it would just makes things worse, but in fact, you can remove gum from your carpets with peanut butter! First, remove as much of the gum as possible by heating the area with a hair dryer and rubbing it with a plastic bag. That should remove the majority of the gum but the peanut butter should get the rest of it. Rub a small drop of peanut butter on the spot and let it sit for 5 minutes. Then wipe it with a damp cloth. Finally, dab the spot with warm water mixed with 1 teaspoon dishwashing liquid.

Polish your Car
Have you ever been polishing your car with white wax and accidentally gotten the wax on some black trim or molding? Simply rub the dark area with peanut butter. It will remove the white wax and restore the black areas to their original color.

Clean Glass
While you’re washing your car, you might have a difficult time removing certain bug splatters on your windshield or bumper. You can also use peanut butter to remove them. Smear some peanut butter over the affected areas and wait a few minutes. Then wash the area with a hose and water.

Remove gum from your hair

Remove Glue
After you’re done building your model airplane, you can remove the glue from your hands and work station by simply rubbing it with peanut butter or vegetable oil. This will also work with epoxy and other types of household cements.

Medicate Man’s Best Friend
Instead of wrestling your dog to the ground in order to make them take their medication. Spread a layer of peanut butter and place the pill inside. The dog will lick it up in a few minutes. Using spray cheese will also work. Make sure that the peanut butter does not contain chocolate flavor (theobromine) which is poisonous to dogs.

Make your Own Dog Biscuits
Buying pricey dog biscuits - especially bakery ones - can be a strain on your wallet. If you love to bake, we have a simple solution for you. Combine 2 cups whole wheat flour and 1 tablespoon baking powder in a bowl. In a separate bowl whisk 1 cup skim milk with 1 cup natural peanut butter. Combine the dry and wet ingredients until a dough forms. Knead for about 5 minutes. Roll the dough to a ¼-inch thickness. Cut out with cookie cutter and placed on a greased cookie sheet and bake for 20 minutes at 375 degrees Fahrenheit.

Treat Scratched Wood
For scratches in your wood, rub it with peanut butter or mayonnaise. Wipe it off with a damp rag after 30 minutes. Wax the surface after you’re done.

Cure Hiccups
Believe it or not peanut butter might actually get rid of those annoying hiccups - not because of the peanut butter itself but because of what it takes to swallow it. Eat 1 large teaspoon of peanut butter and take your time swallowing it. As you chew and use your tongue, your breathing patterns will be interrupted and may result in ridding yourself of the hiccups.

Get Rid of Fish Smell
Love fish but hate the lingering smell? Put a dollop of peanut butter in the pan with your frying fish. The peanut butter will absorb the odor instead of the house and your furniture.

Clean Vinyl or Leather
Rub the peanut butter in a circular motion into the vinyl or leather. Wipe away with a buffing cloth. Your furniture may smell a bit like peanut butter after this though. So, mix in a little perfumed oil to mask the smell.
